[Instagram] in 30 days. Days 14 and 15.

That's right. This is a double-up post. My lazy Monday spent at home watching movies with my husband got a bit too lazy, so I ended up skipping blogging. Here are my two latest Instagram posts, both using the "Brannan"'filter.

Day 14

Food posts are always popular on Instagram, although given how unappetizing the filters make food look, I have no idea why. Anyway, this post picked up a couple likes from two fitness/nutrition bloggers so that's interesting, I guess.

Day 15 (aka day infinity of Pittsburgh Pirates madness being visited upon me by my yinzer husband (I don't think I used that correctly, but he constantly misuses Jamaican phrases on purpose).

Here he is, parading his recently acquired  Pirates paraphernalia.

 Go Buccs, I suppose.

[Instagram] in 30 days. Day 12

Snaps of dinner and flowers in "Sutro" for a pre-typhoon Saturday at home.

Tokyoites, stay dry and stay safe!

Friday 13 September 2013

[Instagram] in 30 days. Day 11.

Snapped an outdoor pizzeria in Shibuya tonight with the "Early Bird" filter.

It received a "like" not too long after I posted it.

That is all.

[Instagram] in 30 days. Day 10.

My snapshot for the day: my husband preparing black and white film for spooling, using the "Willow" filter.

Spooling black and white film in an Instagram photo using an Instagram black and white filter. Do I need to comment on the irony?

[Instagram] in 30 days. Day 9.

Well, I used the hell out of Instagram today! Two snapshots using the "Lo-Fi" filter.

And here's my first video on Instagram: a short clip of my husband mixing film development chemicals.

[Instagram] in 30 days. Day 7.

One of the things that's always irked me about Instagram is how awfully unappetizing it's filters make food look. For instance, here's my post for today (using the "X-Pro II" filter):

Here's the original image:

And again, the modified one:

And yet, food pictures seem to be the most popular on Instagram.

By the way, those dumplings were delish!

I'll leave you with some words of wisdom from mrpimpgoodgame, on the downside to social media fame (this post cracked me up all afternoon):

'Night.

[Instagram] in 30 days. Day 6.

Nothing new at all today. There was really nothing for me to snap and post, so I just browsed public posts on Instagram. Am I already getting bored with Instagram?

Friday 6 September 2013

[Instagram] in 30 days. Day 5- rain, rain, go away 2.

Still very dark and yucky outside, so there were no opportunities to take any great outdoor shots.

Nothing special happened today either, so all I had to offer the Instagram world was a photo (with the "Valencia" filter) of my Kokeshi clown that I got at a thrift shop some time ago.

Anyway, TGIF! Let's see what I capture tomorrow.

[Instagram] in 30 days. Day 4 - rain, rain, go away.

Hello blogosphere!

Only one post on Instagram today, using the "Hudson" filter.

Remember those beautiful clouds I posted a picture of yesterday? Well, the started spewing wonderful thunderstorm goodness last night and continued for most of the day today. There seems to be no end to the rain in sight, so I'll either have to come up with creative drying methods or lug my laundry to the nearest laundromat (which is about 20 minutes away).

In other Instagram news, mrpimpgoodgame is going to start making T-shirts?

I wonder what they'll look like.

And with that, I bid you good night.

Wednesday 4 September 2013

[Instagram] in 30 days. Day 3 - Happy Hump Day!

Two posts on Instagram today, both using the "Mayfair" filter. Woohoo!

First, my breakfast.

Then, on my way home from work, I noticed some low-hanging clouds.

I've got a few "likes" on a couple of my pictures so far, but that pales significantly next to the best thing that happened to me online today.

Thanks to Buzzfeed, I discovered and immediately started following @mrpimpgoodgame.

Don't let the similarities among his photos fool you. The captions on his photos vary and include such gems as, "You are not going to stash some dead presidents from a pimp lol."

I'll leave you with that and go back to reading while waiting for this thunderstorm to blow over.

"Maybe sharknados are coming, dude."
- My husband.

Tuesday 3 September 2013

[Instagram] in 30 days. Day 2 - a case of the Tuesdays.

Nothing much to report today. I "took" two photos with Instagram on my way to and from work.

1. Location: on a bus about 20 minutes away from Kawagoe Station.
Filter: "Rise"
Subject: a man who decided that he wanted to lie down on the backseat so badly that it didn't matter that someone else was there.

2. Location: on a bus heading back to Kawagoe Station (about ten minutes away).
Filter: "Lo-fi"
Subject: beautiful clouds that could have only been done justice by using black and white film with a red filter.

It is pretty easy to use, so I do get the appeal as far as user-friendliness is concerned. My experience so far has been a bit quiet, though. Maybe I need more friends?

Who knows what I'll capture tomorrow? It's going to be a hot Day 3 (30 degrees!).

Monday 2 September 2013

[Instagram] in 30 days. Day 1.

VoilĂ ! My first Instagram post.

Pictured is the Halloween display at one of the hundred-yen shops in my neighborhood. I can't yet begin to wrap my mind around the fact that it'll soon be time for me to start thinking of Halloween crafts for my classes. I am convinced that one could write a massive book about the marketing of Western holidays in Japan with a very long chapter about seasonal shop displays.

Anyway, back to Instagram. I applied the Amaro filter to this - woohoo!

I guess I'm still wondering what the real pull of Instagram is. As I hash tagged the post, I thought to myself, self, why not just take the picture with your phone and post it to Facebook?

Maybe I'll just go crazy and try TWO different filters tomorrow!

New

Behold, the folder on my phone in which I store icons for all the social media apps I use.

Now, anyone who knows knows why the newest addition (bottom left) is a bit strange. I have spent so much of the last couple of years railing against Instagram (These filters are shit! This is not real photography! Oh my god, these stupid filters!), and now I've finally decided to see for myself what almost everyone on my Facebook feed has been on about.

Yes, I will be trying Instagram, filters (cringe) and all, for 30 days. My username is reluctant_IGer. Ladies and gentlemen, fallah back a me!
